Armidale Regional Council Mayor Cr Simon Murray is delighted to announce the appointment of Ms Susan Law to the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Armidale Regional Council.
The recruitment process for the appointment of a new CEO began in April with a nationwide advertising campaign and search by specialist recruitment agency McArthur. High quality applicants expressed an interest in the position with five applicants shortlisted for an interview by the selection panel. The panel included Mayor Simon Murray, Deputy Mayor Dorothy Robinson, Cr Ian Tiley, Cr Diane Gray, Mayor of Glen Innes Council Steve Toms and UNE Vice Chancellor Annabelle Duncan. One applicant was shortlisted for an interview with the whole of Council at an Extraordinary Meeting held on June 1, 2018.
Mayor Simon Murray said he was very impressed with the calibre of applicants received.
“The selection process was extremely challenging for the five shortlisted applicants with one applicant clearly displaying some impressive experience and knowledge in Local Government,” said Cr Murray.
“The preferred candidate was then selected to be offered the CEO position after being interviewed during the closed session held at the Extraordinary Meeting.”
Ms Law comes to Council with an impressive resume of leadership positions in Local Government including General Manager Health Care Otago (NZ); Chief Executive Office of both Adelaide City Council and the City of Charles Sturt; World Bank Advisor to the Mayor Cape Town (South Africa); Managing Director of Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council (UK) and CEO of Wokingham Borough Council (UK).
Most recently Ms Law established her own business using her experience in complex organisational management, strategic planning, organisational transformation, particularly during periods of change, to support public sector organisations to position themselves to meet future challenges.
“Susan is an exceptional candidate who comes to us with extensive experience as a CEO having led and managed public sector organisations, including local government and health and housing organisations in New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and the UK,” said Cr Murray.
“Ms Law hails from the land of the long white cloud and as you can see has travelled the world for her work. She is very much looking forward to living in the region and helping us achieve our potential."
The new CEO will commence on Monday 23 July 2018.
