The iconic Woodend Clocktower is about to be restored thanks to a grant from the Victorian Government and Council.
Council successfully obtained $30,000 through the Restoring Community War Memorials & Avenues of Honour Grant Scheme and will also contribute $30,000 to the project.
The important restoration works involve repairs to the fabric of the clocktower, which is dedicated War Memorial.
This will ensure the structure, which was constructed in 1927, will stand proudly in the streetscape for a further 90 years.
As well as committing funds to the project, Council has consulted with the Woodend RSL Sub Branch, the Woodend & District Heritage Society and Councils Heritage Advisor.
It is expected the works will start this spring.
Cr Bill West and Acting Chief Executive Officer, Dale Thornton joined Minister for Veterans, Minister for Sport and Minister for Tourism and Major Events, John Eren, and Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas at the clocktower for the announcement of Council’s grant success.
