Dispose of “problem” household waste at Community Recycling Centre

Today, 5 June 2018, is World Environment Day and Kyogle Council is encouraging residents to do their bit to properly recycle potentially harmful household materials that can’t be safely disposed of in the kerbside bin.
This ‘problem’ waste includes leftover or unwanted paints, oils, batteries, gas bottles, smoke detectors and light bulbs.
The solution is to take these ‘problem’ wastes to the Community Recycling Centre (CRC) at the Kyogle waste facility.
Not only is it free for all NSW residents to drop off at their CRC but it also means that most of these items will be recycled ensuring that these precious resources don’t end up as landfill.
So far more than 440 tonnes of problem wastes, mostly unwanted paint and old gas bottles have been successfully recycled through the Northern River’s network of eight Community Recycling Centres including Kyogle.
The paint ends up as an alternative fuel for use in cement kilns and undamaged gas bottles are retested, restamped and returned into the hire industry. Damaged bottles and paint tins are recycled as scrap metal.
So do yourself and the environment a favour on this World Environment Day and take the ‘problem’ out of household waste by dropping off for free, all year around at the Kyogle CRC at Runnymede Road, Kyogle. It is open from 7.30am – noon Monday to Friday and from 9am – 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
