Library Helps Kids Get Into Recycling

Storytime at the Moree Community Library and Mungindi Library will have a different focus this month with the guest narrator from Cleanaway delivering their  kNOw Waste™ Education Program.

Parents and preschoolers will learn about the different materials that can be recycled in the yellow-lid wheelie bin; how waste is collected, what happens to it; and how children can Reduce, Reuse and Recycle waste at home.

The ‘Binwise’ storytime will teach children about sustainable waste management practices through interactive games, songs and a story.

Moree Community Library Coordinator Samantha Geatches said community waste is everyone’s problem, so at the Library we want to encourage our youngest members to recycle properly to prevent contaminants from such material entering the environment.

“We hope children who participated in the program will share their learning experiences with their family, relatives and friends, and together we can ensure a cleaner, greener environment for us and future generations.”

“We are also encouraging people to bring in their household batteries, mobile phones, e-Waste and printer cartridges to the Moree Community Library’s Recycling Station.”

The Library’s recycling drop-off initiative complements the existing Community Recycling Centre at the Moree Waste Management Facility, which opened in August last year.

“Libraries have always had a key role to play in environmental sustainability through their borrow, read and return practices with books, so programs like kNOw Waste™ Education Program is just an extension of the Library’s capacity be environmentally friendly,” commented Ms Geatches.

The special ‘Binwise” storytime with Cleanaway will run at 10.30am, 19 June 2018 at the Moree Community Library and 10.30am on 26 June 2018 at the Mungindi Library.
