Mayor Richard Marsh said the Local Laws were being updated as required by the State Government.

“There are a number of Local Laws that will change, but we especially want to hear thoughts from the community on the changes to the Local Laws applying to the keeping of animals in town areas,” he said.

“Councillors and Council officers have workshopped the Local Laws and have come up with a raft of changes that we will be taking to the community.

“The main changes cover size of land allotments and how many animals, including dogs, can be kept.

“Councillors and officers will conduct a number of community consultations in April and early May in an effort to reach as many people as possible.”

Cr Marsh said flyers showing the proposed changes to keeping dogs were sent out to each home this week to give residents time to read through the changes.

“A second flyer about other animals will also be delivered to residents, so please take the time to read these flyers and come and give us your thoughts on the changes,” he said.

“These changes will be in place from 1 July 2018.”
