Local gardens will be in full bloom this year thanks to the Kingston’s Council’s annual rose pruning event.
Community groups have joined forces with Council to present a fantastic community day out featuring the rose pruning demonstration, art show and a free barbecue on Sunday 22 July at Mentone’s Keith Styles Reserve.
Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos said the much-loved annual event brings artists, gardeners and other residents together.
“The keen gardeners of Kingston know the arrival of the cooler weather marks the best time of the year for rose pruning, and Council is pleased to support this popular annual event,” Cr Staikos said.
“We’re pleased to see so many local organisations coming together for the occasion. It’s a great representation of the strength and diversity in Kingston’s community. It will be a great day out for veteran green-thumbs, novice gardeners and art-enthusiasts alike.”
The Rose Society of Victoria will present the rose pruning demonstration from 11am with tips on planting bare-root roses, sprays, fertilising and general rose care. The Mentone Mordialloc Art Group will then present the ‘Art in the Park’ show while Cheltenham Rotary Club serves up a tasty barbecue.
The rose pruning event is free and no need to RSVP, simply come along with BYO secateurs.
