Bayside Community Nursery celebrates its 40th anniversary
Bayside City Council 29 Jun 2018

Council is hosting a Gala celebration for the fortieth anniversary of the Bayside Community Nursery on Saturday, 14 July.

Established by a passionate group of volunteers, the nursery has nurtured the indigenous plants of Bayside since 1978 and is believed to be one of the first of its kind in the world.

Each year, the nursery grows and supplies around 100,000 indigenous plants, grasses and trees for planting in our parks, inland and coastal bushland reserves.

Bayside City Council Mayor, Cr Laurence Evans, said that the Friends of Bayside have a long history of supporting the nursery in their tireless efforts to protect and promote our local biodiversity.

“We are lucky to have such incredible volunteers who have helped the nursery become very much a pioneer in the field of community-based indigenous nurseries.

“The nursery is a valuable source of information on indigenous plants as well as information and expertise on Bayside’s local plant life,” Cr Evans said.

For the anniversary event, the nursery will offer a special limited release of wildflowers and provide gardeners with the opportunity to explore the species and seek advice on the right plants for their garden.
