Comic Con-versation program

The City of Canada Bay welcomes Queenie Chan and her collection of comic book masterpieces as part of our Comic Con-versation program, said City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas.

 “Over the month of July, we invite all teenagers from across our City to get involved in comic culture at different events such as comic and animation drawing workshops and extravagant exhibitions,” said Mayor Tsirekas  “The program celebrates comic culture with events, presentations and workshops across our libraries.”

The main event will be the talented Queenie Chan exhibition at the entrance of Concord Library from 6 till 22 July where 11 pieces of her astonishing work will be on display for the public to visit and observe her talent first hand.

“I am delighted that we are able to present Queenie Chan’s work at Concord Library. It is an inspiring time for all teenagers to get involved and see some of her incredible work on exhibition,” said Mayor Tsirekas. 

“My venture into the world of comics rose in 2004 following graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems. I started drawing a 3-volume mystery-horror series named The Dreaming for LA-based manga publisher TOKYOPOP, which has now translated into multiple languages,” said Queenie Chan. In 2012, Queenie worked with author Kylie Chan on the comics-prose book Small Shen, a prequel to the best-selling White Tiger fantasy series.

"Throughout the years I have had the honour to work with some incredible artists and authors, and collaborated on various single-volume graphic novels with best-selling author Dean Koontz,” said Queenie Chan.

After that, she worked on several anthologies and completed a 3-book fairy tale inspired fantasy series called Fabled Kingdom. 

“I think it is wonderful that the City of Canada Bay libraries are running workshops, exhibitions and events for interested teenagers, giving them different opportunities to learn new skills such as animation and drawing, which is educating teens about the work that goes into producing comics. More importantly, getting teens involved with comic culture once again,” said Queenie Chan.     Queenie is currently working on her next project, a non-fiction children's comic called The Greatest Queens of History, a non-fiction comic touching on women in politics.

Comic badges, keyrings and magnets workshop  Create your very own badges, keyrings and magnets at this workshop.  Where: Concord Library   When:  Tuesday, 10 July 2 – 3:30pm 

Heroes and villains drawing workshop Learn tips and tricks on how to draw manga heroes and villains, demonstrating easy step-by-step instructions in this fun workshop.  Where: Concord Library   When:  Monday, 16 July 2018 at 10am

Comic drawing and animation workshop  Dream up, design, and animate your own comic character and bring it to life at this special workshop held over two half days.  Where: The Connection, Rhodes  When:  Wednesday, 18 July at 11am–1.30pm and Thursday, 19 July at 11am–1.30pm
