Collinsville road repairs to start soon

Collinsville residents have cause to celebrate with restoration works set to start on 14 roads across the region next month thanks to $8.18 million in joint Commonwealth and State funding.
The Severe Tropical Cyclone (STC) Debbie disaster assistance is provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth and State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
The road repairs will include grading and gravel top-ups along large sections of unsealed roads around Collinsville, with the first package of works expected to begin in July and the second package in August.
Minister for Law Enforcement and Cyber Security Angus Taylor, who has responsibility for Commonwealth disaster assistance, said the funding would provide some relief to the region following STC Debbie last year.
“The Whitsundays was one of the hardest hit by STC Debbie, causing significant damage to public infrastructure, homes and businesses,” Mr Taylor said.
“Works to repair these roads will help get the community back on track, linking locals to jobs and essential services.”
Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick said the funding was a great example of the Australian and Queensland Governments’ commitment to providing ongoing assistance to communities impacted by natural disasters.
“In response to Cyclone Debbie, communities, organisations and government agencies have come together to provide invaluable and ongoing support to impacted regions,” Mr Dick said.
“All three levels of government have come to the table to provide the Whitsundays region with a financial boost that will ensure their roads are safe and accessible for all road users.”
Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Andrew Willcox said the funding was great news for residents in the area.
“I would like to thank the Commonwealth and State Governments for their support in helping the Whitsunday region recover and rebuild,” Mayor Willcox said.
“After STC Debbie, we were left with many gravel roads in a very poor state and I am very pleased to report that local contractors will commence repair works soon.”
The roads which will have sections repaired include: •Emu Plains Road •Amberkolly Road •Exmoor Road •Weetalaba Road •Glen Avon Road •Yacamunda Road •Illamatha Road •Stratford Road •Rutherford Road •Johnny Cake Road •Myuna Road •Reeds Road •Glendoo Road, and •Strathalbyn Road.
