Steel work on the new bowl is now complete, with concreting to commence in coming weeks.

The deepest area of bowl is an impressive 2.4 metres.

Funding for the skate park upgrade was secured earlier this year through the State Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, a program that helps provide high quality, accessible community sport and recreation facilities across Victoria.

The Victorian Government’s contribution of $100,000 added to Ararat Rural City Council’s $220,000 input along with $100,000 from the Ararat Skate Park Committee – made up of donations, fundraising, and pledges from local community groups and businesses, including Ararat Community Enterprise, Pacific Hydro, Rotary and Grampians YMCA.

Refurbishment of the existing skate park will commence shortly.

Contractor Independent Concrete Construction will be making every effort to keep elements of the existing park open where possible and safe.

Users may find the site closed from time-to-time over the coming months as works are undertaken, but should be excited by the new bowl and refurbishment works.

If there are any questions about the closure times or the development, residents can contact Ararat Rural City Council Executive Manager Community Life Angela Hunt on 0418 504 493.
