MEDIA RELEASE 5 June 2018
Maintenance works have commenced at Chifley Dam for the routine replacement of devices on the dam’s crest that monitor the performance of the embankment.
Mayor Graeme Hanger OAM said the works were routine and Council has appointed a highly experienced and specialised contractor to conduct the work.
“Chifley Dam is well maintained and the replacement of the monitoring devices assist in ensuring structure remains sound. Throughout June, equipment and contractors may be seen along the dam’s crest,” he said.
The work consists of
1. Two holes on the crest, each with three Vibrating Wire Piezometers installed to approximately 14, 10, and 6m depths
2. One open standpipe behind the wing wall; and
3. One to two test holes at the crossing to assess construction of the low flow weir.
The maintenance works are expected to be completed by the end of June.
