River Murray, Lakes & Coorong
Alexandrina Council has been a vocal and consistent advocate for the health of the River Murray, Lower Lakes & Coorong.
Our region is still recovering from the Millennium Drought. Restoring and protecting the health of the River Murray, Lakes & Coorong is essential for the fish, birds and other wildlife which call it home but also for our local farmers, fishers and business owners. Healthy communities need healthy environments.
Our vision is a healthy, working Murray-Darling Basin which sustains our people, our economy and our environment. The wellbeing of future generations demands that governments, interest groups and water users all work together to provide effective whole-of-Basin management.
Alexandrina Council supports full and timely implementation of the Murray Darling Basin Plan and we are committed to working for the good of all that rely on a healthy, working river, now and into the future.
Murray Darling Association Region 6
Alexandrina Council is a member of Murray Darling Association Region 6. The Murray Darling Association (MDA) represents local government and communities throughout the Basin by providing information, facilitating debate and seeking to influence government policy.
MDA Region 6 represents the Lower Murray, Lakes & Coorong region. MDA membership is open to all local government, industry and community groups, and individuals with an interest in ensuring a sustainable future for the Murray-Darling Basin.
We welcome new members and encourage community participation in our meetings and events. MDA Region 6 meets six times a year and our meetings are held in Goolwa, Tailem Bend or Murray Bridge. Copies of our meeting agendas and minutes are available here.
