The Benalla Rotary Club has restored the entrance gates to the Benalla Botanical Gardens.
The gates are historically and aesthetically significant as the entrance to the Gardens. They are a replica of the original gates and were donated to the Council by the Rotary Club of Benalla in 1989. The donation commemorated the 50th anniversary of Rotary in Benalla.
Mayor, Cr Don Firth, said the restoration of the historic gates preserves an important part of Benalla’s history and reflects the important work of volunteers and community groups in Benalla Rural City.
“The Benalla Rotary Club have demonstrated such a high level of care and commitment to Benalla Rural City in the reviving of these historic gates,” said Cr Firth.
“The new gates will be enjoyed by the whole community for many years as a result of the craftsmanship of the Benalla Rotary Club’s volunteers.
“On behalf of the community, we thank the Benalla Rotary Club for their service,” said Cr Firth.
The Rotary Club have also painted the bollards, seats and posts in Benalla CBD and installed exercise equipment and drinking stations on the lake.
