Ash Laing has used elements of the social media story that erupted after Untitled (Oi, Oi, Oi,) – which depicted a person wearing an Australian flag - was taken down from a wall.
Reflecting on that experience, Laing examines the role of the Australian flag in contemporary Australian life in his new exhibition, Flagging Opinion.
In this new installation work, Laing brings together photographs of himself and objects he has made from the flag, as well as a soundscape of voices reading comments from social media, as he investigates the schisms of esteem, novelty and identity.
