Four popular bus stops to get shelters

Shelters are to be installed at some of Canterbury-Bankstown’s most frequented bus stops.

City of Canterbury Bankstown Mayor, Khal Asfour, said he was proud to announce that four of the City’s most popular and highly-used bus stops are to get extra protection from the elements.

“While we would prefer to have shelters at all bus stops across the City, it’s just not possible, that’s why we focus on providing them at the most used locations,” Mayor Asfour said.

“These four stops are being used by hundreds of people each week and this will make traveling safer, easier and more comfortable for those who rely on public transport, and buses in particular, to get where they need to be.”

Mayor Asfour said as Council looks to complete its programs for the 2017-18 financial year, it has been able to secure four additional shelters to be placed at:

• Chapel Road, Bankstown (outside Aldi);

• Cahors Road, Padstow (at Iberia Street);

• 881 Punchbowl Road, Punchbowl; and

• 111 Rex Road, Georges Hall (Outside Donington Gardens Retirement Village).

Earlier in the year, Council received requests from residents for a bus shelter to be installed in front of the Donington Gardens Retirement Village.

“For many of these residents, public transport is their only way to get around, so this bus shelter will make life a little bit easier for them,” Mayor Asfour said.

“Canterbury-Bankstown’s bus network is very extensive and extends to almost every corner of the City.

“In fact, we have more than 1,700 stops along the City’s 907-kilometre road network.”
