Council adopts 2018-19 budget

The rate rise represents an increase of 64 cents a week to the average residential household.

A surplus budget has again been delivered, allowing Council to consolidate the city’s long-term sustainability while working towards the aims set out in the community’s vision for the future under the community strategic plan, “Albury 2030”.

The budget also includes the bringing forward of improvements to the roundabout at Thurgoona Drive and Elizabeth Mitchell Drive, as part of an ongoing plan to meet the growth requirements of Thurgoona-Wirlinga.

The budget has also allowed for the completion of the reconstruction of Kerr Road to Thurgoona Drive and a realignment of Kerr Road to create a new access point to the Hume Freeway.

Among other projects to be started under this year’s budget will be a major redevelopment of the riverside precinct and important improvements to Wonga Wetlands. Both projects attracted strong community support during Council’s “Have a Say” processes.

The budget contains more than 2600 expenditure items with a total spend of $136M.

Also last night, councillors voted to accept a small increase in Councillor and Mayoral fees, in line with a decision of the NSW Local Government Remuneration Tribunal.
