Mr Henry Wong Reappointed as General Manager

Strathfield Council is pleased to announce that Mr Henry Wong has been reappointed as General Manager for the next 5 years following an extensive recruitment process.

Henry’s numerous achievements not only at Strathfield Council but at other councils as General Manager, his extensive experience and qualifications, his vision for the future of the Strathfield LGA, and his track record of delivering services and facilities effectively and efficiently makes Henry eminently qualified to take on the role of General Manager.

Under Henry’s leadership, the last two years at Strathfield Council has seen significant improvement and achievements. The fight against amalgamation came to a head in July 2017 with the State Government abandoning its plans, ensuring Strathfield Council remained whole. The infrastructure and streetscape of the Strathfield LGA has been vastly improved with upgrades to roads, footpaths and cycleways. Our youngest residents have delighted in the upgrades to 25 playgrounds including the popular Strathfield Park.

Henry has also dedicated time to the improvement of internal functions, building a work environment which is well resourced and family-friendly. He has spearheaded projects aimed at improving staff training and upskilling to ensure staff are equipped to deliver services efficiently and seamlessly to our residents and ratepayers. 

There is still much work to do and Henry and Council staff are focused on continuing to roll out upgrades to amenities and council buildings, investigating the potential for an urban forest in the LGA, transforming Strathfield into a ‘Smart City’, revitalising town centers and more.

Cr Gulian Vaccari, Mayor of Strathfield, said “My fellow Councillors and I are keen to get on with the job of working with Henry, his Executive team and all staff to achieve our community’s vision and aspirations in the Strathfield 2030 Community Strategic Plan and to make our community ‘Beautifully Strathfield’.”

Henry’s appointment will bring stability and continuity to the organisation and to staff.

Council congratulates Henry and looks forward to an exciting and prosperous 5 years ahead for Council and the Strathfield community.
