Wollongong City Council’s Independent Hearing and Assessment Panel is now known as the Wollongong Local Planning Panel [WLPP].

The WLPP will assess and determine those developments referred under new guidelines issued by the NSW Minister for Planning and Environment. Local Planning Panels are now mandatory for all local governments in Sydney and Wollongong. The WLPP will also have a role in reviewing planning proposals.

Importantly,  a draft Submissions Policy for the WLPP is now out for public comment. The draft Policy provides additional referral criteria to the WLPP for either Development Application advice and / or determination. The draft Policy provides for:

Councillor, General Manager and Planning Director call up provisions A reduction in the  number of objections which trigger referral to the Panel in certain development categories And reduced threshold for departures to development standards being referred to the Panel.

This draft Submissions Policy is based on Council’s former IHAP charter which was refined and periodically exhibited and reviewed by Council over 10-years. The former IHAP was an advisory panel only, making recommendations to Council. The WLPP will continue to provide independent advice on selected development applications, or will determine these applications where applicable.

Council will exhibit the draft Submissions Policy from 11 July until 11 August. All community members are encouraged to make a submission on the draft policy. You can view the draft policy on Council’s website or at Council’s Customer Service Centre, 41 Burelli Street Wollongong from 9am to 4.30pm.

If you’d like to know more about the WLPP, you can contact Council’s Customer Service Team on (02) 4227 7111.
