We’re asking for community feedback on the draft Master Plan for Beaton Park. We’re asking for community feedback on the draft Master Plan for Beaton Park.

Just two kilometres from the Wollongong CBD, Beaton Park is our City’s largest leisure centre complex and is home to a number of recreational facilities including an indoor leisure centre, tennis courts, basketball stadium, athletics track and soccer and cricket fields. The aim is to develop Beaton Park as a regional centre of excellence with high performance and event facilities.

The majority of the buildings on site were built between 1960 and 1980 and the purpose of developing a Master Plan for Beaton Park is to guide its redevelopment and use into the future. This plan will direct Council’s decision making to ensure that what the centre offers and meets community needs and expectations, supports its growth and that Beaton Park continues to be a regional centre of excellence.

Everyone – whether current, past or future users of Beaton Park – is encouraged to share their thoughts and comments on the draft Master Plan currently on exhibition.

“Beaton Park plays an important role in the active lifestyles of so many of our residents and visitors,” Wollongong City Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery AM said. “We want to ensure that this site is a centre for excellence and caters to the needs of community members and visitors now and in the future. Our community wants more flexible and sustainable facilities and there are so many competing leisure and recreational services today.

“Beaton Park currently provides great opportunities as a leisure, sport and recreational hub and it serves amateur to elite athletes as well the recreational users and all one location. We are trying to find the best ways to meet the varied interests from athletics, to swimming to table tennis and many other leisure activities and sports.”
