Katoomba Solstice Celebration a success

Up to 2,000 people attended Council’s free multi-venue family-friendly celebration in the Katoomba CBD on Saturday, 23 June 2018.
Local musicians entertained from 12 locations, including two stages and pop-up performance spaces.
Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill, said: “This mini music festival – which included activities for the kids – continued to showcase the breadth of our local talent.
“It followed Katoomba Live and Local, held in April, and both events were well supported by the community. Council is proud to support local musicians and local businesses.”
Venues hosting artists for Katoomba Solstice Celebration included the Avalon, St Hildas, Vintage Emporium, Platform Gallery, Hominy Bakery, Katoomba Street Café, Rex Livingston and Gallery ONE88.
The event complemented other activities held in Katoomba on the day that the Winter Magic Festival is normally held.
The Winter Magic Festival Committee cancelled the 2018 event, due in part to difficulties meeting compliance needs and associated costs required by an event of such a size.
Blue Mountains Economic Enterprise (BMEE) is set to work with the Winter Magic Festival Committee, after Blue Mountains City Council outlaid $80,000 to help future-proof the Community-led event.
The funding provided by Council will be spent to help:
Determine parameters for future Winter Magic Festival events; Establish a new sustainable management structure for the committee; and Engage suitably qualified experts to deliver a full suite of management plans.
