Entries open for Youth Art Prize Thursday 05 July

Entries are now open for the East Gippsland Youth Art Prize which celebrates the talents of the region’s emerging artists.

The prize is open to all people aged 12-25 who live, study or work in East Gippsland Shire.

Artists are free to choose their genre or medium, and entry is free. All entries must be original works and there is a limit of one entry per artist.

The East Gippsland Youth Art Prize winner will receive $300 and a solo exhibition at the East Gippsland Art Gallery. Cash prizes will also be awarded to the runners up.

The East Gippsland Youth Art Prize is supported by the East Gippsland Shire Council, East Gippsland Youth Ambassadors, FReeZA and the East Gippsland Art Gallery.

East Gippsland Shire Mayor Cr Joe Rettino encouraged young people to take advantage of the opportunity.

“This is a fantastic prize for anyone who is young, creative, and wants to gain some experience in the art world,” Cr Rettino said.

“The solo exhibition will be such a great learning opportunity. Any young creative person, whatever their chosen medium, should strongly consider entering the East Gippsland Youth Art Prize.”

East Gippsland Art Gallery Director Crystal Stubbs said youth art offers a fresh perspective.

“I am sure this exhibition will produce some of the most unique works you will see all year.

"The exhibition will highlight and celebrate young people for their unique talents and their ability to interpret life through art.”

Entries need to be delivered to any council Customer Service Centre. Artworks need to be clearly and securely labelled on the back with the artist’s name, contact details, title of work and date of birth.

Entries close Friday, August 10 at 5pm.

The independent judging panel will be made up of local artists and community members.

Works will go on exhibition from Friday, August 24.
