The City of Swan Council last night approved the recommended 1.8 per cent rates increase and adopted the 2018/19 Annual Budget.
City of Swan Mayor David Lucas said the Council had given the final decision full consideration when adopting the 1.8 per cent increase – 0.7 per cent lower than last year’s rates increase of 2.5 per cent.
“The City’s Annual Budget allows us to deliver the core services our residents expect, while planning for the future and improving key infrastructure for our community, including roads and facilities,” said Mayor Lucas.
“We’ve given the Annual Budget careful consideration. Like everyday households, the City also faces increasing costs including electricity, water and motor vehicle registrations.”
Mayor Lucas said that his first Annual Budget as City of Swan Mayor would ensure the City remained on a solid financial footing, while continuing to deliver key projects.
“Despite these financial challenges, we managed to set the rates increase to just 1.8 per cent and the City will continue to invest in areas that improve the quality of life for our community,” said Mayor Lucas.
“We are investing $49.3 million in improving road reserve infrastructure and have committed $23.9 million to building construction and works.”
