Ballarat Year 10 students will have the opportunity to take part in a free theatre-based program aimed at educating youth about the importance of interrupting cycles of violence.
The City of Ballarat is proud to support You the Man, a travelling program highlighting how bystanders can interrupt cycles of relationship violence and abuse.
The You the Man theatre production will be in Ballarat between 6-16 August with local secondary schools encouraged to sign-up for free.
The performance will focus on five male characters dealing with and responding to domestic violence or sexual assault, and acknowledges the complexities of dealing with domestic and sexual violence, as well as the impacts and the responsibilities of such violence.
A panel discussion will follow, with representatives from local service providers addressing the issue of relationship violence from a local perspective and sharing key information on access to local help services.
This event is also supported by Highlands LLEN, Ballarat Centre Against Sexual Assault, Ballarat Health Services, headspace Ballarat, School Focussed Youth Services, Ballarat Community Health, White Ribbon campaign, Central Highlands Community Legal and Victoria Police.
You the Man is written by Cathy Plourde, directed by Suzanne Chaundy and produced with permission of Cathy Plourde and Add Verb Productions under license to Deakin University.
Registrations close on 21 July 2018.
