Changes to the Environmental Weed Control Rebate will help ensure the program’s success.
From July 1 residents applying for the rebate will need to supply pictures before and after works.
Conservation and Environment Committee Chairperson Councillor Kerry Silver said the rebate, once approved, covered 50 per cent of costs for contractors or herbicide purchase, up to a maximum amount.
The four eligible weed species are cat’s claw creeper (Macfadyena unguis-cati), lantana (Lantana spp), climbing asparagus fern (Asparagus africanus) and Chinese elm (Celtis sinensis).
“It will be a requirement that property owners upload a picture of the weed infestation when they apply for the rebate, and also upload a picture after the work is complete,” she said.
“There are more than 200 applications for the rebate each year, so this will help demonstrate the success of the weed control for council and property owners.
“The pictures also ensure the long-term sustainability of the rebate. It’s a simple measure but helps council and property owners make sure the rebate is effective.”
Cr Silver said it was a requirement property owners interested in claiming the rebate contact council and obtain approval before they start work.
Online applications for the Environmental Weed Control Rebate can be made through council’s website www.ipswich.qld.gov.au or call the Applications Team on 3810 6666 for assistance.
