Council is looking for community feedback on a planning scheme amendment proposing to apply planning controls in Lancefield.
Following extensive community consultation, Council has prepared the amendment for three large residentially-zoned areas located to the east, north and northwest of Lancefield’s town centre.
The purpose of the amendment is to provide clearer guidance for future subdivisions and development in the nominated residential areas, and to ensure any further development is coordinated, sustainable and respectful of the town’s character.
Director Planning and Environment, Angela Hughes said that while the areas highlighted were currently zoned for residential development, there is an absence of specific planning controls in place, which is cause for concern.
“Lancefield is a picturesque town, that locals and visitors alike enjoy, but without appropriate planning controls in place, to guide coordinated development—the town is in danger of losing its charm.
“Things like street patterns, wide road reserves and street trees—which are all important elements in the preservation of Lancefield’s small town character—are considered in the proposed amendment.
“The proposed amendment also helps inform any infrastructure, road design and servicing works as a result of development, bringing a level of cohesion into the development process.”
To view the amendment documents, visit Have your say or drop-in to a Council service centre in Kyneton, Gisborne and Romsey.
Plans will also be on display at Lancefield Neighbourhood House, 78 High Street, Lancefield, with residents encouraged to come along to a community drop-in session on Tuesday 17 and Tuesday 24 July from 3pm–8pm.
Council officers will be on-site to discuss the proposal, its purpose and any concerns residents may have.
Feedback can also be sent to Macedon Ranges Shire Council, PO Box 151, Kyneton VIC 3444 or emailed to [email protected] by Monday 13 August.
