Recycle your silage wrap

East Gippsland Shire Council will again be running a silage wrap recycling program, providing an environmentally-friendly way to dispose of silage wrap.

During the four-week program, farmers can take silage wrap to the Bairnsdale Landfill, 200 Johnsons Road, Forge Creek between Monday, July 16 and Monday, August 13.

Last year’s program saw farmers recycle more than three tonnes of silage wrap that would have otherwise gone to landfill.

The silage wrap needs to be shaken and as clean as possible, and will be accepted in Bulka bags, wool bags or Plasback bags without net wrap or twine.

The charge will be $11 per bag with both cash and eftpos accepted this year.

Silage wrap is made of a high quality linear low-density polyethylene plastic which is a wasted resource if sent to landfill.

Burning silage wrap is illegal and it also releases harmful chemicals into the atmosphere.
