The floating jetty at Luderick Point Boat Ramp has sustained damage and is cordoned off from public access, East Gippsland Shire reports.
Following Sydenham Inlet being opened to the ocean, the water level dropped to the point where the pontoon was sitting on the ground.
Director Operations Chris Waites said this caused the floating jetty to buckle.
“The water level is below the level that the floating jetty was designed for. When it sat on the ground, it was subject to water movement that twisted and flexed the jetty,” Mr Waites said.
“The boat ramp and the fixed jetty are unaffected and open for use. Council is working with the manufacturer to decide the most effective repair and to ensure that this doesn’t occur again.
“More information about the timing of repairs will be provided to the community and user groups once we have a timeframe for repairs,” Mr Waites said.
Council is also aware of the rocks at the end of the boat ramp and will be addressing this shortly as well.
