New community funding promotes sustainability

The City of Albany’s inaugural Community Waste and Sustainability Grants scheme is now open for applications.
Eligible applicants can apply for up to $1000 to go towards projects tackling community waste issues.
Mayor Dennis Wellington said the aim of the grant scheme was to encourage innovative and creative approaches to waste minimisation in Albany.
“With the average Albany household producing 23kg of waste per week it’s important to support local solutions to a global issue,” Mayor Wellington said.
“We hope to see variety of applications, from initiatives to teach our community to create less waste to new technology to reduce waste to landfill and increase resource recovery.”
Priority will be given to projects that contribute to the City of Albany being a regional leader in waste minimisation and recycling, minimise waste streams to landfill, facilitate education programs, consider new waste technology, and create a network of residents to spread the waste minimisation message.
