Media statement from Mayor, Cr Nora Lamont

As Mayor, I am pleased to advise the Maroondah community that Tasa Damante has been declared Councillor-elect in the Wyreena Ward.

This follows the formal countback of votes from the October 2016 general election, undertaken by the Victorian Electoral Commission at 11am on Monday July 16, 2018 at the Maroondah City Council Chamber.

The vacancy in the Wyreena Ward follows the resignation of Councillor Michael Macdonald effective on 13 July, 2018.

On behalf of my fellow Councillors, I welcome Tasa to Council, and look forward to working with her to ensure Maroondah continues to be a great place to live, work and play.

Tasa was in the Council Chamber for the countback and was immediately sworn in as a Councillor by the CEO, Mr Steve Kozlowski. She will serve as a Councillor for the Wyreena Ward for the remainder of the Council term, which concludes in October 2020.

Cr Damante said she was excited about taking up her new role.

“I live locally and my children go to school in the area, so I’m really looking forward to having a more hands on role in the community,” she said.

“I really love the area, so I can’t wait to get out there and do what I can to make Maroondah a great place for everyone."
