National Tree Day is Australia’s biggest nature care initiative, and it’s on Sunday 29th July.
Mitchell Shire Council has supported National Tree Day since 2001, by providing native plants, guards and stakes to community groups and schools and coordinating planting events in Councils reserves.
This year’s Mitchell Shire Council will provide 5000 native seedlings, stakes and guards to three (3) community planting sites and twelve (12) local schools.
Community planting events are being held across Seymour, Kilmore and Wandong.
Community planting events will be held at the following locations across the shire: • Goulburn River Walking Trail, Seymour (Sunday 29 July, 10am -12pm) • Grassy Street Reserve, Kilmore (Sunday 29 July, 10am -12pm) • Lions Club Gazebo, Wandong (Sunday 29 July, 9am-12.30pm)
South West Goulburn Landcare is also facilitating a large environmental planting on a property in Tallarook on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 July. For further details see the Planet Ark website.
Volunteers are asked to register their interest with the site Coordinator by visiting http://treeday.planetark.org/.
Wear appropriate clothing, including gardening gloves, and bring your own hand spade.
