Kingston celebrates National Tree Day

Kingston Council is encouraging the community to get out their green thumbs for National Tree Day on Sunday 29 July.
Mayor Steve Staikos said there were a host of local events taking place right across Kingston and volunteers were welcome.
“Tree Day is a great opportunity to do something positive for your community and the environment while enjoying time in the great outdoors and connecting with people in your neighbourhood,” Cr Staikos said.
National Tree Day started in 1996 and since then more than 3.8 million people have planted 24 million trees and plants and it's still growing.
Cr Staikos said that tree planting sites have been organised by Council and community groups in a range of sites across the municipality.
“Grab your gardening gloves and head on down to your local site,” Cr Staikos said. “By working together we have a big impact and make our city greener.”
Local planting sites:
Carrum Foreshore Reserve 10am-1pm, meet at the Carrum Life Saving Club Bonbeach Foreshore,10am-1pm, meet at The Glade beach access boardwalk Edithvale Common, 10am-12pm, meet at pathway near sports pavilion Mordialloc Creek Reserve, 9am-12pm Karkarook Park 9am-12pm Clarinda Lions Club and Friends of Karkarook Park event Namatjira Reserve 10am-12pm The Friends of Braeside Park are also hosting a planting event on Saturday 28 July, 9am-11.30am.Details: treeday.planetark.org
