Albany will commemorate the centenary of Armistice Day with two community arts projects thanks to funding from Lotterywest.
The City of Albany has successfully secured $50,000 to deliver the Armistice Choral Project, and support A Light Shade of Red youth project, which will complement a range of events planned for Remembrance Day.
Vancouver Arts Centre Team Leader Amber Cordon said the funding would help to enhance community engagement during the closing out of the Anzac Centenary whilst creating moving and appropriately significant experiences for visitors and community members.
“The Armistice Choral Project performances will take place within the Field of Light: Avenue of Honour and build on the theme of Remembrance and the stories encapsulated within the installation,” Ms Cordon said.
“This will be complemented by A Light Shade of Red, (coordinated by Annette Carmichael Projects) which extends the opportunity for young people to respond to a significant cultural and historical theme through the development of an exhibition to be presented at the Albany Town Hall.
“Both projects will facilitate a creative community response to the Centenary of Armistice and maximise community involvement”.
