The Federal Government has announced a further $1.1 million funding boost towards the construction of the new Early Learning Centre in Warragul.

The late-addition funding has been secured through the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund supporting projects that create jobs, enhance community facilities and build stronger regional communities into the future.

The new funds build on existing commitments from Federal, State and Local Government detailed below:

Funding Partner Program Total Federal Government Building Better Regions Fund $1,100,000 Federal Government Regional Jobs and Investment Package $800,000 State Government Children's Facilities Capital Program $650,000 Baw Baw Shire Council DCP funds/Capital Works $650,000  $3,200,000

Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Cr Joe Gauci thanked Russell Broadbent MP and the Federal Government for their continued support and for acknowledging the mounting pressure on kinder places in the Shire.

“We’re grateful for the generous funding boost which will help us deliver an outstanding and vital community facility providing 132 much needed kindergarten places”, said the Mayor.

“The additional contribution will allow us to redirect $1.1 million of Council funds to other critical projects to address further demands.

“Our focus now is to continue advocating to the State Government for more kindergarten places now and into the future.”

Federal Member for McMillan, Russell Broadbent said the additional funding is a fantastic outcome for the community.

“This will have major economic and social benefits across the community including jobs during construction, providing vital education benefits through the delivery of kindergarten programs while acting as an important meeting place for community groups,” said Mr Broadbent.

“The early learning centre will not only be a valuable community asset but also assist our region to continue to thrive and prosper well into the future.”

The new centre, to be co-located at the Warragul Primary School, will contain multi-use rooms tailored for kindergarten and play group use during school hours, allied health and early childhood intervention services during the day and with the ability to provide a community hub outside of these times.

The tender for construction works is in final stages and will be awarded shortly.
