East Gippsland Shire Council is reminding drivers to only cross Main Street Gardens (Centre Median), Bairnsdale using the formal road network.
Main Street is a four-lane road divided by a wide, grassed median. Drivers access the lanes opposite by crossing at intersections or at narrower cut-throughs.
Acting Director Operations Mark Burnett said council had been contacted by a number of residents concerned about driver behaviour.
“There are a number of locations to cross to the opposite side of Main Street. Council would also like to remind the general public not to use the emergency services access,” Mr Burnett said.
“This area is line marked and signposted and is only to be used to aid emergency services personnel during emergencies.
“It is designed to give emergency services a direct route to and from their destination when needed. It is important this area be kept clear at all times,” Mr Burnett said.
