Community focus in Annual Budget

Mayor Dennis Wellington has welcomed the adoption of the City of Albany’s 2018-19 Budget, which provides a strong focus on maintaining high-quality services and facilities, whilst ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of the City of Albany.

Mayor Wellington said the Budget would focus on consolidating current service delivery and maintaining community assets, allowing the City to meet the needs and expectations of the community.

“This year’s increase of 2.95% is in line with the City of Albany’s 10-year financial plan and will provide value for money for ratepayers.”

“We have managed to absorb cuts from the State Government funding for areas such as roads and the club development program, while still delivering key projects such as the Town Hall refurbishment and upgrades to Alison Hartman Gardens.”

The Budget contains $36.3 million for the City’s capital works program, which includes $2.3 million for developed and natural reserves projects, $100,000 for CCTV and $6 million for road works.

Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre will also receive $667,000 for renewal projects including a major refurbishment to the old stadium toilets and change rooms.

“The City of Albany is working hard to make Albany a better place to live for our community, as well as ensure we are a destination of choice for visitors,” Mayor Wellington said.

“With the Middleton Beach Coastal Enhancement Project, Field of Light and closing out of the Anzac Centenary, 2018-19 is sure to be another fantastic year for the community of Albany.”
