There’s nothing like the cheerful sounds of Irish music to warm the cockles of your heart.

Don’t miss the chance to catch Celtic group Bhan Tre as they perform traditional Irish songs as well as their original music that has earned them a loyal following both here and internationally.

Bahn Tre formed in 1997 as an all-female acoustic ensemble with a repertoire of traditional Irish tunes, along with a selection of original songs with a Celtic flavour.

Geraldine Davis (vocals, guitar, bodhran), Sue Foley (vocals and bodhran), Rebecca Humphries (fiddle and vocals) and Wendy Rowlands (vocals and accordian) have become  regulars at some of the country’s major folk festivals, and continue to take their style of Celtic music to Ireland and England.

For Sue Foley, who originally studied to become an opera singer, the group’s longevity isn’t so much the ‘luck of the Irish’ as it is a pure love for the music they create.

“I was studying opera and fell into the Irish scene quite unsuspecting and fell in love with the music,” she says.

“We’ve had the most amazing experience and have been to places we wouldn’t have otherwise gone to or even known existed. We’ve met fantastic people over the journey, too.”

While having played in front of thousands at some of the country’s well-known music festivals including Beechworth and Port Fairy Spring Music Festival, Sue says the group still enjoys the feeling and community spirit of performing at smaller grassroots events.

“Kilmore was one of the very first festivals we performed at. It’s hugely important that we maintain that sense of fun and interaction with community audiences just as much as with the bigger, more well-known festivals.”

The group has had three successful album recordings Bhan Tre, Ballinagh and Banshee on your Heel, working in collaboration with record producer and former guitarist of the Little River Band, David Briggs.

All albums are a testament to the group’s songwriting skills and their ability to create sublime four-part harmonies.
