Some new success stories at Armidale War Memorial Library are promising to bring added life to the region.

The library is displaying Renew in a Box, a travelling exhibition showing how cities and towns can be activated, one empty space at a time.

The exhibition features previous success stories of artists, entrepreneurs and other clever folk who have brought exciting activities and visuals to previously empty buildings and open spaces.

It celebrates the people and partnerships from previous Renew in a Box ventures and the achievements of Renew Newcastle, which was launched in 2008 and is the origin of the Renew movement.

Visitors to the local display are being encouraged to nominate themselves for an Armidale region Renew in a Box working group.

“They could be involved as volunteers to transform a site, ideas people with concepts of how Renew in a Box could be adapted to our area, or the artists or artisans who take the opportunity to operate in these spaces,”  Council’s Program Leader – Tourism, Marketing and Events, Tony Broomfield, said.

“The exhibition captures the contagious make-do, can-do spirit behind the initiative and each of its projects.”

Council partnered with the Armidale and Guyra Business Alliance to bring Renew in a Box to the region, celebrating its arrival with a breakfast for local business people and an exhibition launch at the library late last week.

Renew in a Box is on display at the Armidale Library until 20 August.
