Free Wi-Fi and computer use at all Whitsunday libraries

Residents and visitors will no longer be required to pay fees to access Wi-Fi and public PC’s from 1 August 2018, at the Bowen, Cannonvale and Proserpine libraries.
Whitsunday Regional Council resolved at yesterday’s Council meeting to cease charging fees for Wi-Fi and computer use at all libraries in the Whitsunday region.
Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Andrew Willcox said removing fees for this critical service is a positive move to improve access to digital technology in the region.
“By providing this service for free we are ensuring there is an affordable option available for our residents,” he said.
“Our libraries play an important role in helping people stay informed, educated and connected online.”
“With the increase in personal devices being used by the public to access the internet, providing free Wi-Fi and public PC’s allows Council to further support digital literacy across our region.”
Council has also resolved to investigate introducing Wi-Fi to the Collinsville Library, which does not currently have this service.
Both Wi-Fi services and access to public PC’s will continue to be time limited to ensure fair access for all users.
