MEDIA RELEASE 26 July 2018
Council is currently rolling out state of the art remote monitored surveillance cameras in a bid to deter illegal dumping.
The project includes a range of high profile remote activated cameras that can monitor a large area from one point in addition to new discreet cameras which can monitor smaller or more difficult sites.
With assistance from the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA), Council has installed signage, fencing, earth mounds and other barriers to prevent dumping and other illegal activities.
Mayor Graeme Hanger OAM said Council is committed to preventing illegal dumping and has utilised various initiatives and strategies.
“We have provided education programs, assistance through tip vouchers and introduced kerbside collection for waste, recycling and organics,” he said.
“It is hoped that these new cameras will help decrease the occurrences of illegal dumping”.
Council is also encouraging people to take advantage of the NSW EPA smart device app, ‘Report to EPA’, which means that people can report littering from vehicles, illegal dumping and spills to the appropriate authority.
This project is a NSW EPA Waste Less, Recycle More initiative funded from the waste levy.
For more information or to report illegal dumping call the Environment Section on 6333 6511 or search Report to EPA on the net.
