Three exciting new art and history exhibitions are coming to Fairfield City Museum & Gallery from Saturday, 4 August.
Word Evolution will open at 2pm and will run until 23 March 2018.
Word Evolution presents a brief visual history of local schools in Fairfield from the opening of the first school in Smithfield in the late 1800s, and traces the dramatic changes since then.
Discover how children communicate and use language, how we send messages and create meaning through visual and spoken language in this rapidly-changing world.
Also opening at 2pm is Foundation, a collection of artworks that use found materials connecting to place and origin.
Featuring Daniele Hromek, Kent Morris, Megan Cope and Robert Fielding, Foundation acknowledges the histories of First Peoples and their relationship to country.
Foundation will be on exhibition until 17 November.
Fairfield City Museum & Gallery will also showcase the work of respected Western Sydney artist Marian Abboud in an exhibition that challenges identity, land and culture.
Sister + Sister + Sister + Sister (+Brother) + Sister will open at 4pm and will run until Saturday, 27 October.
Her art practice incorporates photography, video and performance, and draws upon her experience of living across two cultural identities – Arab and Australian.
Fairfield City Frank Carbone said he was impressed at the creativity and talent on display.
“Fairfield City Museum & Gallery is a wonderful venue for emerging and established artists, local and international, to tell their stories, share their experiences, and challenge visitors with expression and opinion,” Mayor Carbone said.
“These three exhibitions continue Fairfield City Museum & Gallery’s longstanding tradition of displaying quality, thought-provoking art alongside treasures of Fairfield City’s past.”
“Best of all, Fairfield City Museum & Gallery is free to enter and is a great place to bring the family for an affordable, fun and educational day out.”
The three exhibitions will be joined over the rest of the year by other exciting displays and activities. Fairfield City Museum & Gallery’s full program of events is now available from the museum’s front desk or online at www.fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/FCMG.
