Guitar enthusiasts are in for a special treat this August, when Blue Mountains Theatre hosts two of the world’s greatest living guitarists in one incredible week – critically acclaimed, intrepid guitar visionary Kaki King (US) and living legend of rock and country, virtuoso Albert Lee (UK) Blue Mountains Theatre is thrilled to host these exceptional artists who are also headlining the Sydney Guitar Festival – providing local audiences with the opportunity to experience these two amazing artists up close and personal at the region’s premier performance venue.
New York-based Kaki King has created a cult-like following amongst rock, guitar and classical audiences alike from around the globe over the past 14 years. She has performed on every continent over the course of multiple world tours and has presented her work in a variety of prestigious American arts centres, including the Kennedy Center, MoMA, LACMA and The Met. Hailed by Rolling Stone magazine as “a genre unto herself”, her unique playing style and progressive multimedia performances have garnered her much critical acclaim.
“I’ve never seen anything like it…a sumptuous feast for the senses, a dizzying display of sound and vision by a guitarist already renowned for her innovation… I repeat: Do not miss this,” from the Boston Globe.
King will be presenting her acclaimed show 'The Neck Is a Bridge To The Body', in which ground-breaking technology is utilised to project luminous imagery directly onto the guitar as she plays. The result is a beautiful, immersive and surprising experience – a feast for the senses. Grammy award-winning British guitarist Albert Lee is regarded as one of the absolute greatest guitarists in rock and country music history. Lee is a virtuoso’s virtuoso; a guitarists guitarist. Known for his fiery fast fingers and inimitable paying style, Lee is celebrating over 50 years in the music industry with his first Australian tour in over a decade.
His stellar CV includes performances and recordings with Eric Clapton, Emmylou Harris, Everly Brothers, Bill Wyman, Willie Nelson and Keith Richards among many others.
With a live show that kicks off with a blistering rendition of Fat’s Domino’s ‘I’m Ready’ and makes joyous pit stops for classic tunes by Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris, Buddy Holly, Jimmy Webb and Ray Charles, you can be assured of a sensational night of fabulous music as Albert and his crack L.A. band provide a masterclass in guitar picking rockabilly country via a living history of rock and roll.
