Campaspe Shire Council invites farmers and other chemical users to safely dispose of old chemical drums at the Colbinabbin Transfer Station on Friday, 24 August between 9am and 12noon as part of Agsafe’s annual drumMUSTER program.

Mayor Cr Adrian Weston said the drumMUSTER provides an easy, environmentally friendly way for farmers to dispose of old chemical drums.

“The program is an excellent platform for the responsible disposal of chemical containers, avoiding potential contamination in waterways and diverting waste from going to landfill,” Cr Weston said.

Drums eligible for disposal include all drums branded with the drumMUSTER logo that have held detergents, dairy chemicals, liquid fertilizers and other non hazardous farm chemicals.

All drums for disposal must:

be plastic or metal be one litre to 205 litres in size be rinsed until free of any visible chemical residue be clean and dry be punctured if metal have all lids removed

Containers will not be accepted if they have not been properly cleaned and drained inside and out. All drums will be inspected on the day by a drumMUSTER inspector.

The drumMUSTER program turns recycled drums into farm fence posts, wheelie bins, irrigation pipes, barstools, bollards and more chemical containers.

“Disposing of empty chemical containers via the program enables the reuse of plastics and metals, and our community is to be congratulated on their positive contribution with last year’s muster event seeing 1674 containers diverted from landfill and repurposed,” Cr Weston said.

The Echuca, Mt Scobie (Kyabram) and Rochester Resource Recovery Centres have a permanent drumMUSTER collection program for empty and triple rinsed chemical drums up to 20L.
