Campbelltown Library Services Survey

Council consulted on the Campbelltown Library opening hours and program offerings. Thank you to everyone that completed a survey or provided other feedback on this topic; a report willl now be prepared and provided to Council for consideration after the conclusion of the Council elections.

Proposed Thorndon Park Miniature Train

Council consulted the community in July/August 2018 to find out what people thought about establishing a miniature train at Thorndon Park. 723 people responded to the consultation (636 of them were residents and ratepayers).  From the resident/ratepayer responses, 

56% of people (45% within walking distance to the park) supported the train proposal 57% of people (64% within walking distance) opposed Council fully funding the project

As a result of the consultation, Council decided to go ahead with the project subject to Paradise Railway Club Incorporated raising all funds required to complete the installation above the $135,000 already committed by Council in previous budget decisions.

Roaming Cats

Council consulted the community in July/August 2018 to find out if there is an issue with nuisance cats in the local area.  Thank you to everyone that completed a survey or provided other feedback in relation to Council's roaming cats consultation.  A report willl now be prepared and provided to Council after the conclusion of the Council elections for consideration.

Draft Reconciliation Action Plan 2018-2020

Council recently consulted the community about its Reconciliation Action Plan that has been developed in conjunction with Reconciliation Australia and Council's Reconciliation Advisory Committee.  Thank you to everyone who sent in feedback; Staff will now consider how to incorporate this feedback before putting the Plan back to the Committee and Council for consideration after the conclusion of the Council elections.

Play Equipment - Campbelltown Memorial Oval, Paradise

Council recently sought ideas from the community on play equipment to be installed as part of the Campbelltown Memorial Oval Redevelopment (click here for further information on the redevelopment). The community will again be invited to participate by providing feedback on a draft concept plan prepared in consideration of the ideas put forward. It is anticipated that this further consultation will take place in July 2018.

Draft 2018/2019 Annual Business Plan and Budget

Council annually seeks feedback from the Community on its plan and budget for the following financial year. The engagement with the community on Council's Draft 2018/2019 Plan and Budget was conducted in May and the outcomes were presented to Council for consideration at its meeting on 5 June 2018 (click here and go to Item 11.5, page 181 to view the report).

Draft Economic Development Plan 2020

Council sought feedback from the local Community, including businesses, on its Draft Economic Development Plan 2020. At its meeting on 17 April 2018, Council considered the feedback from 76 surveys, four written submissions and one verbal response. With general support for the direction of the Plan, including the action plan, Council adopted the plan with some minor changes to strengthen the connection between environmental protection and economic development; strengthen the connection with ERA (Eastern Region Alliance) economic development priorities; and, to highlight Council’s commitment to protecting the City’s character.

Draft Waste Management, Multicultural and Whistleblowers Policies

In March 2018 Council invited the Community to comment on the following draft policies.

• Waste Management Policy (new) • Multicultural Policy (new) • Whistleblowers Policy (revised)

Council considered the feedback received (approximately 50 responses to each of the policies) and adopted the Whistleblowers Policy and Waste Management Policy without any further changes. Council also adopted the Multicultural Policy with minor amendments  to provide clarification. Although only minor changes were made to one of the policies, the feedback overall identified a number of areas that will be considered for future investigation and action as appropriate. Thank you to everyone who assisted Council in finalising these policies.

Greenglade Drive (Paradise) Playground Improvements

Stage 1 The equipment at the playground on Greenglade Drive in Paradise is near the end of its useful life and is due for replacement. In October 2017 Council surveyed residents around the Playground and also held a Talking Point to hear ideas for playground improvements. Council at its meeting on 19 December 2017 considered the feedback and endorsed a draft concept plan for further consultation with the local community. Council also resolved to consider allocating $133,000 for Greenglade Drive Playground Improvements at the time of formulating the draft 2019/2020 Annual Business Plan and Budget.

Stage 2 In February 2018, residents were sent a copy of the concept plan for review. Based on the feedback, the design was revised to extend the shelter and provide an additional picnic table, change the single bird nest swing to a 5-way swing set that includes a baby swing, include additional play equipment around the dinosaur to provide more play opportunities for under 5 year olds. On 20 March 2018 Council considered the feedback and revised design and resolved to consider allocating $150,000 (an additional $17,000 to that requested in Stage 1) for the Greenglade Drive, Paradise playground improvements at the time of formulating the draft 2019/2020 Annual Business Plan and Budget.

Rosemary Avenue Reserve (Athelstone) Playground Improvements

Stage 1 The playground equipment at Rosemary Avenue Reserve is near the end of its useful life and is due for replacement. In October 2017 residents around the Reserve were asked to tell us about how they want the playground to look, feel and function in future years and to give us ideas for replacement playground equipment and/or nature play features. Ideas and suggestions from residents were used to prepare a concept plan and Council at its meeting on 19 December 2017 considered the feedback and endorsed a draft concept plan for further consultation with the local community. Council also resolved to consider allocating $78,000 for the improvements at this playground at the time of formulating the draft 2018/2019 Annual Business Plan and Budget.

Stage 2 In February 2018, residents were sent a copy of the concept plan for review. With mostly positive comments, Council at its meeting on 20 March 2018 resolved to just receive the feedback. As per Council's decision in Stage 1, $78,000 will be considered for inclusion in the draft 2018/2019 Annual Business Plan and Budget.

Max Amber Sportsfield Master Plan - Concept Options

The 2016/2017 Annual Business Plan and Budget allocated $50,000 to the development of the Max Amber Sportsfield Master Plan. A draft Plan was prepared with Council endorsing two options for the purposes of Community consultation and this was undertaken in November 2017.

Although there was some support for either Option A or B, the overwhelming view of the Community was that they did not support Council progressing with either Option A or B. The Community indicated that they generally agreed that the existing facilities needed to be upgraded however in a far more moderate way.

At its meeting on 21 November, although consultation had commenced, Council resolved that Staff prepare a report on how much each of the following changes might reduce the cost of the proposed Master Plan:

Construct a single storey main club building rather than a double storey building (however at the oval level) Not construct a second soccer field where the tennis courts are and convert that area to a ‘grassed reserve’ Not construct an artificial soccer field Not re-align the main football/cricket oval.

After careful deliberation, Council noted the feedback from the Community and resolved to take no further action in regards to Option A or Option B. Furthermore Council requested that Staff obtain costs for upgrading the facilities (including the possibility of a double storey Football Clubroom) and associated amenities at Max Amber Sportsfield at their existing sites in addition to the scope of works requested by Council at its meeting on 21 November 2017.

Draft Playground and Exercise Equipment Plan

During March 2017 Council sought feedback from the community on this new Plan that provides a long term strategy to replace, consolidate and provide new playgrounds and exercise equipment in the Campbelltown City Council area. The aim is to develop a network of playgrounds and exercise equipment throughout the City that provides for the Community now and into the future while keeping maintenance costs at a manageable level.

Policy Consultations

Council regularly reviews its policies, and in doing so, invites you to have your say on any proposed policy amendments, prior to adopting these policies.  Policies are presented for your review in batches (usually by Department) and feedback received is reported to Council for consideration after the close of the consultation for each batch. Refer to the Current Engagement page for details about current opportunities.
