Discount Pet Microchipping

Yorke Peninsula Council, in conjunction with YP Vets (Minlaton & Maitland) and Vet 2 You (Port Vincent), are offering 300 vouchers to local residents to receive discounted microchipping for their dog and cats.

From 1 July 2018, all dogs and cats in South Australia will need to be microchipped before 3 months of age or 28 days after purchase.  The microchip is tiny and easy to insert under the skin between the pet’s shoulder blades.   Each microchip has a unique code which permanently identifies the pet.  The owner’s contact details are stored in the Dog and Cat Management Board’s (DCMB) statewide database, Dogs and Cats Online, making it easier for Councils to return wandering dogs and cats.

Mandatory microchipping is one of four major South Australia pet reforms commencing on 1 July 2018.  The reforms also include mandatory desexing and new rules for dog and cat breeders and sellers.  For more information visit www.dogsandcatsonline.com.au

The DCMB will be sending dog renewal registration notices in late July with online registration to be completed by 31 August.   Dogs and Cats Online replaces council registers with a single central online database.  Dog registration fees will now be payable direct to the DCMB instead of Councils (cat registration continues to be free).   The registration process will also include issuing a new once-off grey disc which will stay with the dog for its lifetime.

Only Yorke Peninsula Council residents are eligible for the voucher.  To obtain a voucher, Residents need to call in to one of Council’s offices to purchase their $10 voucher which they then take to their vet clinic appointment.  There is a limit of two vouchers per household.
