During this year’s Local Government Week, Liverpool City Council will celebrate its 300 men and women who live – and work – for Liverpool.

“This year's theme for Local Government Week is 'The Power of Community', which is a great opportunity to acknowledge the contribution our local staff make to Liverpool’s story,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said.

“Like myself, some 34 per cent of Council staff live in the Liverpool LGA, bringing great opportunities and a sense of pride in what you can do for people in your neighbourhood.”

Each day during Local Government Week (30 July to 5 August), Council will feature a different staff member on its digital channels.

“Council provides a vast array of invaluable community services from waste collection and library services to hosting art exhibitions and major events,” Mayor Waller said.

“As part of this staff showcase, we’ve profiled a mix of our talented local people who work in landscaping, early education and care, surveying, festival production and customer service.

“We value the expertise of all our staff – but especially those who live locally who are able to inform better decision-making through their close ties to the community.

“Through this staff showcase the community can learn more about their neighbours who are helping shape Liverpool into a vibrant, engaging and connected city for all to enjoy.”

Vi Girgis, Prestons resident and producer of Council’s upcoming premier CBD event, Eat Your Heart Out Liverpool, said she was delighted to be featured in the staff showcase.

“I’ve been working for Council for eight years and I find myself constantly inspired to be part of an organisation that is working to transform Liverpool into a more liveable city for all,” Ms Girgis said.

“It’s wonderful to be a part of Council’s Local Government Week initiative, helping share familiar local faces with our own community.”
