Thousands of people flocked to Casula Powerhouse for the biggest ever Way Out West Children’s Festival (WOW Festival) over the last few days of the July School Holidays.

In its eighth year, the WOW festival is a celebration of the creativity of young people in South West Sydney and beyond.

The Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, a cultural institution of Liverpool City Council, showcases art, film, theatre, dance, music and more in a program as diverse as the Liverpool region which it serves.

CPAC was transformed by a colourful array of artworks over the four-day festival that finished on Saturday, drawing a record crowd.

The most popular components of the festival were the schedule of free events which included roller skating, badge making, colouring in, crazy painting and dance parties.

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said hundreds of families had attended creating opportunities for all to engage with the arts and to help inspire their creativity.

“The WOW Festival is one of the biggest events that the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre holds every year,” Mayor Waller said.

“It is important to ensure that the festival plays host to the world-class talent of the young people in Western Sydney and it’s getting bigger and bigger.”

CPAC Director Craig Donarski praised the effort put in by the 40 volunteers and noted the passion for the arts that they exhibited.

“The Way Out West festival was a vibrant sensory overload, with eye-popping installations, edible craft, a labyrinth of string, roller skating, face painting, a symphony on the river and much, much, more!” said Mr Donarski.

“The diversity found in Western Sydney creates unique opportunities to display the vast creativity in young people.

“For our eighth year, we’ve hit dizzying new records for attendance, with expanded programming far beyond anything we’ve done in the past.”
