Applicants wanted to run East End Street Race
City Of Adelaide 30 Jul 2018

The City of Adelaide is putting out a call for event organisers to apply to run the East End Street Race, a bike race event to be held in the East End of the city later this year.

The proposed concept is for a one-day street cycling event that would provide a unique opportunity to showcase street cycling within the city and provide an exciting, family-friendly event.

Street racing was previously held in the East End during the late 1980s and early 1990s, drawing thousands of people to the precinct to watch the Cycle with the Stars event.

City of Adelaide Councillor David Slama, who initiated the idea for the East End Street Race, hoped that this event would also attract more people to the area.

“The excitement and entertainment that a series of closed street bike races can bring with bars, cafes, restaurants open in laneways and footpaths, live music and performances and DJs - activating the East End for an afternoon will bring much needed action to the area.”

Council is undertaking an assessment of the feasibility of the event, and seeking to identify potential parties with the interest, experience and capability to organise such an event.

The City of Adelaide is seeking the following information from applicants:

An event brief in line with the proposed concept Proposed event dates Proposed course map Indication of costs associated with delivering the event Evidence of having previously managed events of a similar nature.

Cycling South Australia have offered in-principle support to provide guidance and assistance to the applicant where required.

The event and any project budget is subject to Council approval.

Submissions close on Wednesday 25 July.
