The Shire of Ashburton, in partnership with Rio Tinto, is excited to announce that Hodge Collard Preston has been awarded the tender for Architectural and Civil Design Services of a modern, purpose-built Child Care Centre in Tom Price. The tenders were reviewed at the July Ordinary Meeting of Council, with the project now ready to move into the design phase.
Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White said that the Shire looks forward to working with Hodge Collard Preston to develop a functional design concept for this much needed facility.
“Awarding the tender means the concept design of both the new childcare facility, as well as the other proposed uses of the large site, can be established,” said Cr White. “Development of a new childcare centre for Tom Price is a major milestone for the town and will be a positive asset in further supporting our local families.”
Rio Tinto general manager Tom Price and Marandoo Operations Jamie Robinson said the company was pleased to see the project progress to the next phase.
“A fit for purpose child care centre supports families living remotely and, more broadly, is an essential part of a vibrant community where people want to work and live.”
“Rio Tinto is excited to be working with the Shire of Ashburton through our Community Infrastructure and Services Partnership to deliver a child care centre that will meet the needs of current and future residents."
Earlier this year Council had nominated the parcel of land that is nestled between South Street and Poinciana Street as the preferred site for the new facility. In addition to the architectural design services for the Tom Price Childcare facility, respondents to the tender were also required to provide a subdivision concept plan for the preferred site, taking into consideration the requirements of the child care centre, future residential housing and a potential co-located emergency services facility.
It is anticipated that Architectural Designs will be finalised later this year, with funding for the project secured early next year.
