The three largest town sites in the Shire of Augusta Margaret River local government area have all made the shortlist for the Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities State Awards. The awards are an initiative of the State Government’s Keep Australia Beautiful program which aims to celebrate regional and remote communities who take positive action to protect and enhance their environment.  Shire Waste Education and Project Officer Jackie Dickson said the Shire achieved four finalist listings in three separate categories as well as being in the running to win the overall State Award. “Margaret River is a finalist in the categories of ‘Community Action and Wellbeing’ for the Transition Margaret River Open Coffee Club initiative, and the category of ‘Young Legends’ for work completed by Shire Youth Officer Ladriel Hackett,” she said. “Augusta and Cowaramup will go head to head for the Environmental Education category. “Augusta’s application featured their work on the Donovan Street Reserve, while Cowaramup entered a project by the Year 6 class titled Catching Gold, where they worked to protect the health of the Duggan Dam.”
