The QCWA Yeppoon Branch generously donated $2,500 towards a special commemorative seat in support of the Yeppoon Foreshore and Town Centre Revitalisation project and to recognise the longstanding role of the QCWA in the Yeppoon community.

A plaque unveiling was held today to celebrate the donation, which can be found just below the Keppel Kraken water play area on the Foreshore walk.

Deputy Mayor Nigel Hutton said he was proud to see their contribution towards the major project on display for the community to see.

“I must sincerely thank this wonderful community group for their donation. The QCWA has a rich and significant history of service within the Capricorn Coast community spanning over 90 years, and it’s our great pleasure to celebrate them in this way, so their legacy can live on within the Shire for generations to come,” Cr Hutton said.

The QCWA Yeppoon Branch has been part of the Capricorn Coast community since 1924, and in that time has fundraised for countless organisations and community groups across the region and country, as well as overseas.

Although the QCWA Yeppoon Branch closed their doors as of last month due to a number of reasons, former Secretary Joyce Hinton who’d been part of the Yeppoon branch since 1993 said the community group was thrilled to leave a lasting impression on their community.

“We feel so proud and excited to be part of the Yeppoon foreshore project, this is a very important milestone for us that we can reflect on as a group for years to come,” Joyce said.

“We’re all volunteers but we do it because it’s a great social interaction while meeting new people, and also giving back. We have raised money for causes like the drought appeal, helicopter rescue services, lifesaving club’s and the local fire brigades, as well as helping out at local events like the Anzac Day Dawn Service breakfast.”

The Yeppoon Foreshore and Town Centre Revitalisation (Stages 3, 4 & 5) was a $53 million project jointly funded with the Australian Government contributing $10 million, the Queensland Government contributing $29 million, and Livingstone Shire Council contributing $14 million.
